What is a Marriage Visitor Visa?
A Marriage Visitor Visa allows you to come to the UK to marry or enter into a civil partnership.
You need a Marriage Visitor Visa if:
You intend to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK.
Notice of your intended marriage or civil partnership in the UK will be provided.
You do not intend to remain or establish permanent residency in the UK following your marriage or civil partnership.
A Marriage Visitor visa is not necessary if you wish to convert your civil partnership into a marriage; in such cases, you may apply for a Standard Visitor visa.
Additionally, you are exempt from obtaining a Marriage Visitor visa if any of the following conditions apply to you:
You hold settled or pre-settled status granted through the EU Settlement Scheme.
You have applied to the EU Settlement Scheme, and a decision on your status is still pending.
You are an Irish citizen
Am I eligible for a Marriage Visitor Visa?
To obtain a Marriage Visitor Visa, you must provide evidence that you meet the following conditions:
You are 18 or over
You are not already married or in a civil partnership and therefore you can marry within six months if arriving in the country.
Your relationship with your partner is genuine.
You will leave the UK within six months
You will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home.
You can support yourself financially whilst you are in the UK or someone else can support you.
You have the money to pay for your onward journey or someone else is paying for you to leave the UK after the wedding.
You have proof of any other activities you want to do in the UK, as allowed by the Visitor Rules.
