Energy giants, People’s Energy are another company to fall victim to a data breach.
In December 2020, an entire database had been stolen by hackers which included current and previous customers.
Founder of People’s Energy said;
“This is a big blow in every way,” Ms Sode said on Thursday.
“We want people to feel they can trust us.
“This was not part of the plan.”
“We’re upset and sorry.”
They have reported the breach to The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the energy regulator Ofgem, the National Centre for Cyber-Security and the police.
Its not clear as yet what information was on that database but some reports suggest the following:
15 small business customers of People’s Energy have also had their financial details accessed, including their sort codes and bank account details.
If a company has suffered a data breach, the are legally obliged to notify all potential victims. This is normally done by email.
