Below are some frequent questions regarding the 20 year Private Life route to ILR.

What is the private life route to ILR

Under the 20-year rule, you do not need to have lived in the UK lawfully for two decades but must have resided 'continuously' for a minimum of 20 years.

There are four prerequisites you must satisfy to become eligible for ILR under this route:

What is continuous residence?

You must provide evidence of a continuous 20-year residency in the UK. You must not have had any absences from the country exceeding six months at a stretch and that the total period spent outside of the UK during your 20-year duration have not exceeded 550 days. Additionally, you must not have been subjected to removal, deportation, or voluntary departure from the UK following an application denial. Furthermore, you should not have left the UK without a "reasonable expectation at the time of departure that they would be lawfully able to return."
